New Delhi, February 18: In what would be a world record breaking performance of its kind, around two crore students would be performing the Surya Namaskar simultaneously at 80000 places across the country at 09.00 hours IST on Monday, February 18, 2013.
This nationwide event is aimed at creating awareness and interest about practicing SURYA NAMASKAR, a special sequence of yoga postures with 10 steps, having physical, mental and spiritual benefits for students, Mr Aniruddha Deshpande, National Secretary of the Swami Vivekananda Sardha Shati Samaroha Samiti, the organisers of the event, said here.
Organized as part of the ongoing 150th Birth Anniversary celebration of Swami Vivekananda, with a view to propagate the ideals of Swamiji among school students, the mega event in Delhi would witness participation from around 12,000 students of 8th to 12th Standard from 200 schools in the national capital, he said.
Recalling that the youth icon, Swami Vivekananda glorified the Indian culture throughout the world and gave the clarion call ‘Be proud to be a Hindu.’, Mr Deshpande said it is important to draw inspiration from the teachings of Swami Vivekananda in order to revive his ideals. Hence, the objective behind organizing this event is to introduce today’s generation to the ideals of Swami Vivekananda.
