Wake Up Bharat! Enlighten the World!

In the last two centuries, no other individual has captured the hearts of the youth of Bharat, the way Swami Vivekananda did. He blew energy into Bharat which was indulging in self-loathe. He exhorted people of Bharat with his words “This is the ancient land, where wisdom made its home before it went into any other country… Here is the same India whose soil has been trodden by the feet of the greatest sages that ever lived… Look back, therefore, as far as you can, drink deep of the eternal fountains that are behind, and after that look forward, march forward, and make India brighter, greater, much higher, than she ever was.”

He inspired people across the world for working towards the good of humanity. He inspired freedom fighters like Mahatma Gandhi, Netaji Subash Chandra Bose, Tilak, Bagha Jatin & C.Rajagopalachary, scientists like Jagadish Chandra Bose & Nikola Tesla, Poets & writers like Rabindranath Tagore, Subramanya Bharati, Leo Tolstoy & Romain Rolland, Rishis like Rishi Aurobindo, industrialists like Jamshedji Tata, Rockfeller and many many more.

Rabindranath Tagore while speaking to Noble laureate Romain Rolland, summed it up beautifully in one line " If you want to know India, study Vivekananda". Such was the impact of this one man.

After Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa left his body, Swamiji toured the entire country for 5 years as a parivrajaka . He got to see first hand the problems facing the nation and also got to understand the intrinsic strength of our nation. He was constantly trying to understand as to how a nation so glorious in the past had fallen so deep. In the course of his travel he reached Kanyakumari on Dec 25th 1892.  He saw the Sripaada shila . He jumped into the sea and swam to rock.  For 3 days and 3 nights, Swamiji meditated on the past, present and future of Bharat.

On the 3rd day, Swamiji had the vision of One India. He says "We as a nation have lost our individuality and that is the cause of all mischief in India. We have to raise the masses."

He says" One vision I can see clear as life before me that the ancient Mother has awakened once more, sitting on her throne- rejuvenated, more glorious than ever. Proclaim her to the entire world with the voice of peace and benediction”

This was his plan of action for the future. The rest is history. He went to the World Parliament of Religions, spoke about the greatness of our nation and our Dharma. He was proclaimed as the "Hindoo monk of India." The Western media extolled him as a person who was more learned than all the learned men of America put together. After returning back to Bharat, he toured tirelessly to inspire the youth  to work towards the uplift of the masses and at the same time exhorted the down-trodden sections to educate themselves and to live a life of honour and dignity.

At a time when the nation is groping around in the dark trying to find its way, what better way but to turn to Swami Vivekananda's life and message. We are indeed fortunate to be living in these times to be able to celebrate the 150 Jayanti of Swamiji.

During the centenary celebrations of Swamiji in 1963, the nation stood as one force to raise a grand memorial for Swamiji at Kanyakumari at the very place that he meditated in 1892 before leaving for the World Parliament of Religions. To construct the Vivekananda Rock Memorial at the "Sripada Shila", contributions were raised from across the country cutting across caste, creed, religion and politics.  Not limiting the memorial for Swami Vivekananda only to the grand granite memorial at the mid-sea Rock, Vivekananda Kendra a spiritually oriented service mission was started as a second phase.

This year, on the occasion of Swamiji's 150 Jayanti, Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari, Ramakrishna Math and many other like minded organisations have taken up the cause of spreading Swamiji's message to every nook and corner of the country.  This is the year in which all of us need to spread out wide to spread the message of Swami Vivekananda – The message of Shakti, Seva and Samskar.

Swamiji says,  “My faith is in the younger generation, the modern generation out of them will come my workers. They will work out the whole problem, like lions. I have formulated the idea and have given my life to it.

The Swami Vivekananda 150 Jayanti Celebrations committee appeals to the countrymen to participate in large numbers in this noble cause. Let us make our lives more meaningful.

Sankalp Divas- State & City Committee Program

The Sankalp Divas program for Andhra Pradesh State committee and Greater Hyderabad (Bhagyanagar) Committee  was held at Andhra Mahila Sabha campus in Hyderabad. 130 members including 15 mahilas attended the program. Among the prominent members who attended the program were Dr.Tirupati Rao, Ex.Vice Chancellor Osmania University, Smt.Saraswati Rao of Andhra Mahila Sabha, Dr.Kakarla Subbarao among other distinguished guests.

People flocked in a serene atmosphere which saw a unique programme - Swami Vivekananda's photo in meditation in front of which people sat in neat rows and files or semi circles as convenient. Instead of the regular lectures by appointed speakers, a compact disc played a 30-minute message that included two songs, the background to Swami Vivekananda's meditation on the Rock and his message for humanity and specifically to Indians. In the serene ambience, people took an oath - silently, each by himself/herself in their heart - to volunteer their time, skills or resources in whatever way they could to make the celebrations successful in a way that social values and harmony could be restored. What is also unique is that people cut across narrow regional, religious and community bounds to participate.

HSS organizes contest for Swami Vivekananda’s anniversary

To celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, the hindu Swayamsevak Sangh has organized a series of events for children. The launch ceremony of the birth anniversary will be held on his birthday, January 12, 2013 at more than 150 locations in the United States, according to two office bearers of the HSS, Vasant Pandav and Siddhesh Shevade.

HSS has formulated a five point action plan, said Shevade which includes a national contest ‘Dharma Bee’ (on the lines of the spelling bee) on the stories of Swami Vivekananda and Lord Krishna, field trips, adventure activities and sewa activities for youth, a nationwide mobile exhibition on Swami Vivekananda’s life and message, a lecture series on Hinduism in universities during the spring and fall semesters of 2013 and a ‘dharma and yoga fest’ to commemorate Swami Vivekananda’s Chicago address-on September 11, 2013.

At the national contest for children, Shevade said, there will be prizes totaling $ 50,000, with the first prize in four categories being for $ 3000. On January 12, there will be three events in Schaumburg, Aurora and Libertyville.

A spiritual genius of commanding intellect and power, Swami Vivekananda crammed immense labor and achievement into his short life, 1863-1902. Born in the Datta family of Calcutta, the youthful Vivekananda embraced the agnostic philosophies of the Western mind along with the worship of science.

At the same time, vehement in his desire to know the truth about God, he questioned people of holy reputation, asking them if they had seen God. He found such a person in Sri Ramakrishna, who became his master, allayed his doubts, gave him God vision, and transformed him into sage and prophet with authority to teach.

After Sri Ramakrishna's death, Vivekananda renounced the world and criss-crossed India as a wandering monk. His mounting compassion for India's people drove him to seek their material help from the West. Accepting an opportunity to represent Hinduism at Chicago's Parliament of Religions in 1893, Vivekananda won instant celebrity in America and a ready forum for his spiritual teaching.

For three years he spread the Vedanta philosophy and religion in America and England and then returned to India to found the Ramakrishna Math and Mission. Exhorting his nation to spiritual greatness, he wakened India to a new national consciousness. He died July 4, 1902, after a second, much shorter sojourn in the West. His lectures and writings have been gathered into nine volumes.

Theme of the Celebrations
“What our country now wants are muscles of iron and nerves of steel, gigantic will which nothing can resist, which can penetrate into the mysteries and the secrets of the universe and will accomplish their purpose in any fashion, even it meant going down to the bottom of the ocean and meeting death face to face.” – Swami Vivekananda
1)    Wake Up Bharat ! Enlighten The World !!
2)   India to popularize the massage of Universal oneness to world, respect of diversity and universalize the message of immortality of soul.
3)    Man making – Nation Building
Social co-existence is the purpose of Samaroh. We should carry the message of Swamiji’s ideas to various strata of the society. Swamiji had revolutionary ideas. He has ignited nationalism in Indians. He has awakened Sanatan Dharma without hurting the faith of the people.
Wake Up Bharat :
Today Bharat is the most ancient civilization with maximum youth population. We see that youth of Bharat is educated, well-placed and sincere. They want to know more and more about the country, its history and culture and also to serve the country whole heartedly. Service of the masses appeal to them. Swami Vivekananda had given the clarion call which had touched many young hearts who then jumped into the fire of freedom struggle for the independence of Bharat. Today when the youth is again poised for a take-off, the message of Swami Vivekananda would inspire them to take Bharat to ever new heights.
Enlighten the World :
Swami Vivekananda during the darkest period in the history of India saw India emerging as the teacher of the world. Ancient India was considered Jagat Guru by the world. Contemporary world requires a clear goal and destination materially prosperous and spiritually enlightened, if it is not to flounder on its way. It is not only in India's interest, but in world's interest that Bharat emerges as the leading light of the world. The 150th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda is the most appropriate occasion for India to prepare herself to rise as the Jagat-Guru and wake up to its potentialities and responsibilities and enlighten the world.
Social Harmony:
The celebrations aim at taking the message of Swami Vivekananda to all the sections of our society. Swamiji was the revolutionary thinker who triggered the renaissance of the Indian nationalism. He emphasized on the awakening of the masses without in any way hurting their faith in Sanatana Dharma. On his 150th Birth anniversary all the sections of the society are eager to participate spontaneously in the celebrations. With the view of promoting social harmony, the committee has planned Panchamukhi (five pronged) programmes under five segments to involve all the members of the society.

“My faith is in the younger generation, the modern generation. Out of them will come my workers. They will work out the whole problem like lions" This was the conviction Swami Vivekananda had. If traditions are lost then the Janajati community loses its identity, its' moral values and also peace. They need support to move ahead in time, to develop through the cultural traditions. Therefore programmes will be organized, with the motto “Development through Culture” in the tribal areas to raise their self-confidence in themselves and in our culture and tradition.
