35000 students in Jammu perform ‘Surya Namaskar’

Over 35000 students today performed 'Surya Namaskar', a special sequence of yoga postures, here as part of Swami Vivekananda's ongoing 150th birth anniversary celebrations.

"Over 35000 students in over 90 institutes in Jammu performed Surya Namaskar, a special sequence of yoga postures with 10 steps", North-India Samiti coordinator, Gain Chand said.

This was organised as a part of the ongoing 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Swami Vivekananda, with a view to propagate the ideals of Swamiji among school students, he added.

Reports from other district of Jammu province revealed same enthusiasm of students for the yoga program being organized throughout country to commemorate the youth icon Swami Vivekananda. A record breaking two crore students today performed similar yogic exercise in other states of the country.

A nation-wide Surya Namaskar program is being carried out as part of Vivekananda's 150th birth anniversary celebrations with the aim to create awareness and interest among students to practice the Yogic exercise.

Reports also confirmed that hundreds of students today performed Surya Namaskar at Shaheed Bhaghat Singh Park at Digiana under the guidance of Dr Gautam Mengi, Ashok Koul, Parshotam ji in order to commemorate the youth icon Swami Vivekananda on his ongoing birth anniversary celebration throughout India. Students also performed Surya Namaskar at Ved Mandir, Ambphalla, Eden Garden, Shakti Nagar, K K Resort, Talab Tillo, Ramlila Ground, Janipur, Jorawar Singh Park and Trikuta Nagar.
